On Thursday the eve of September the 17th upon a fancy rooftop known to some as the Gawker Media Rooftop, we, the noble rot, herein partnered with The Bowery Mission’s Young Philanthropists to host a benefit party for the Mission.

What happened? I’ll tell you what happened: We raised a handsome some of dough, indulged in pizza, hot dogs, waffles, and wine of course. Red wine, white wine, wine wine and wine. There was swing jazz music all day and all night provided by Joel Beaver’s LES Hot Club and included a prodigy on the violin, Jonathan Russell. The event was a huge success and many thanks are in someone’s hand to all the people involved. We are grateful to Stacey Stecko of the Mission and our old friend Damian from Cabrini for organizing the winelikes of winewonders. Ramon from Tempranillo was on fire and so were his wines. Thank grapeness for Rioja.

This wasn’t our typical noble rot shenanigans as I had to keep quiet and let James Macklin, spokesperson of the Mission, do the talking. He showed a short video that told his story of how the Bowery changed his life and is changing the life of others. I was wearing a pinstriped double-breasted suit that was loud enough for me to maintain vocal silence. I was able to indulge small groups of wine gatherers with my inherent knowledge of all things wine as well as exciting and rapturous tales from my recent trip to California (Napa). I talked of digging for gold and how if you save enough sediment from enough wine over the years you can sift out flakes of gold and eventually put together your very own bar du gold worth something like a bavillion dollars. Yes I said “bavillion.”

“Look at the bright side,” said the Tempranillo to the Cabernet.

“I can’t stand the sun,” said the Cabernet.
